A guide to LBTT
The Scottish land and buildings tax replaced stamp duty in April 2015. The amount of tax payable
now depends on your property purchase price and is only applicable to purchases over £145,000.
The amount of tax you will pay after the first £145,000 increases on a sliding scale. That means you’ll
pay LBTT on the part of the property price within each tax band, as follows:
- nothing on the first £145,000 of the property price
- 2% on the next £105,000
- 5% on the next £75,000
- 10% on the next £425,000
- 12% on the rest (above £750,000)
