The benefits of one bedroom apartments

Buying a first home is a rite of passage for many. Being able to close the front door and relax in your very own space is a wonderful experience to relish.

For many new buyers, the ideal starter home is a one bedroom apartment. Those buying solo, or couples moving into their first home together, get the perfect amount of space to suit their lifestyle and budget, with the added benefit of low maintenance in the shared spaces.

This is particularly true for new build apartments where the start-up costs are very low. With no DIY or renovations to do, and energy efficiency built in as standard, new homeowners just need a few pieces of furniture to make the place feel like home. Many new apartments even include built in wardrobes, a bonus for storage as well as savings.

It could be a new buyers’ first move away from their parents, or the first time they live independent of flatmates, but affordability is always key.

A one bedroom apartment is often the most cost effective option as buyers don’t pay for additional space they don’t use or need. It also gives them fewer rooms to clean – especially helpful for those that are used to home comforts living with mum and dad.

At the moment, first time buyers can even get a helping hand from the Scottish Government’s First Home Fund. The fund provides up to £25,000 towards the cost of buying a first home, for anyone who qualifies, on a shared equity basis, with no monthly or interest payments.
